Limoncello or limoncino?

Just recently I was asked what the difference was between limoncello and limoncino.

I wasn’t quite sure, as when living in Tuscany I made my own ‘limoncello’, and never saw limoncino for sale. Now here in Yorkshire, I buy Limoncello, thinking that Limoncino was something similar and not the real thing. However, I now know they are both the same, and it is all about the region!

"Limoncello is an Italian lemon liqueur mainly produced in Southern Italy, especially in the region around the Gulf of Naples, the Sorrentine Peninsula and the coast of Amalfi, and islands of Procida, Ischia, and Capri. In northern Italy, the liqueur is often referred to instead as limoncino."

If you look into it, it’s more complicated with the different regions, the variety of lemons, and the families and their recipes.

However, as someone said, ‘who cares’! Serve it chilled as an after dinner disgestivo! Either or, enjoy!

And, enjoy the late summer! Jill & Abbi
